Today, citizens of this great country, regardless of religion, race color or creed, have come together in unity and friendship to honor the victims of September 11, 2001. That fateful day shall forever be seared in our hearts and minds. We remember those who died in the attacks and venerate the heroism of the firefighters and police officers who lost their lives while saving the lives of others. We stand in solidarity with their mourning and bereaved families.
G-d of compassion, we beseech you: shelter the souls of the dead under the graceful shadow of Your wings. Give strength and comfort to the survivors so that they may find fulfillment in their lives. Give courage to those who fight terror and protect the innocent from danger.
Sovereign of the Universe who created all humankind in His image, we ask of you to provide wisdom to the leaders of the world so that they may guide us in the ways of righteousness and peace. Teach us to revere the sanctity of life, reject the evil of terror, and recognize the dangers of violence.
Help us realize the Biblical words of Isaiah "that there shall come a time when nation shall not lift up a sword against another nor shall they teach their children the ways of war".
We implore you, G-d of mercy: give us the strength and determination necessary to stay true to our moral bearings. Be with us and direct us as we strive to make this realm kinder and gentler. Fulfill our hopes and listen to our prayers for a world of justice, compassion and peace.
